This is a old little curiosity which is a side project of the Ceder Lounge blog.
The Irish left has always been an interesting 20th century project. Constrained and repressed by the might of the Catholic church, it always found growth difficult.
The Communist Party of Ireland, unlike it's sister parties in the rest of Western Europe, wasn't founded until the 1930s and it was always to remain a very small, marginalised organisation.
There was a vibrant left within the IRA - a paramilitary outfit that has existed continuously from 1916 right through to the present day - but at the same time there were always died-in-the-wool conservative Catholics in the IRA as well.
The Irish Left has tried to reach some sort of compromise with the influence of Catholicism; for instance, Sinn Fein has always had an anti-abortion policy.
The Cedar Lounge have up a number of documents from Irish Left parties and groups, including from the Labour Party, the Official Republican Group, Peoples Democracy and the League for a Workers' Republic.
The primary source is presented as a PDF file, while there is a short discussion on the document by the submnitter followed by a lively discussion.
